Martin Luther King Jr.

Hi! My name is Turnip, but today you can call me Martin Luther King Jr. I was born on January 15th, 1929 and was assassinated on April 4th, 1968 while preparing for a march to help mistreated garbage workers in Memphis, Tennessee.
I graduated high school at 15 years of age and graduated from Morehouse College; a distinguished HBCU(Historically Black College and Universities) in Atlanta, GA.
In 1954 I became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama and became an executive member of the committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; at the time was the greatest organization of its kind in the nation.

In 1955 I lead a nonviolent demonstration that lasted 382 days! The result was a law put in place requiring Blacks and whites to ride the same buses equally.
In 1957 I was elected President of the Southern Leadership Conference. A group formed to provide new leadership for what was becoming the Civil Rights Movement.
In 1963 I gathered 250,000 people for a peaceful march on Washington, D.C. Where I gave my most famous “I Have a Dream” Speech!
I was later named “Man of the Year” by the ‘Time’ Magazine in 1963.
When I was the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize at age 35. I donated the $54,123 prize money to further the Civil Rights Movement!
I am Martin Luther King Jr. And so are you!
